Dickies Tree Service has been grinding stumps across Perth for more than 40 years. From a single old stump in a back garden to a dozen left behind after a clearing job, our crews have the equipment and the experience to remove them quickly and cleanly.
We grind stumps for homes, commercial properties, strata complexes, schools and council sites right across the Perth metro area. Every job is covered by $20 million in public liability insurance, and our crews work seven days a week.
Old stumps are easy to ignore, but they cause more problems than most people realise.
Most tree removals leave a stump behind, and we can grind it on the same day or come back later. We also handle old stumps on newly bought properties, verge stumps left by storm damage, and site clearing ahead of building or paving.
With 28 field staff across seven operational teams, multi-stump commercial jobs are handled efficiently, with full insurance documentation and safety compliance.
Our crews cover the whole metropolitan area, from Yanchep in the north to Rockingham in the south, including the Perth Hills. Because we run seven teams seven days a week, we can usually schedule stump grinding within days of quoting.
The grindings can be spread as mulch in your garden or taken away, whichever you prefer.
How much does stump grinding cost in Perth?
The cost depends on the size of the stump, the number of stumps and how easy they are to reach. We provide free, no-obligation quotes so you know the price before any work begins.
What is the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?
Grinding chips the stump below ground level and leaves the deeper roots to break down naturally. Full removal digs out the entire root ball, which is more disruptive and usually only needed for construction work.
Will the stump grow back after grinding?
In most cases, no. Grinding takes the stump well below ground level, which stops regrowth. Some species send up minor shoots from remaining roots, but these are easy to manage and typically die off.
Can you grind stumps in tight or narrow access areas?
Yes. Our smaller Bandit SG40 is designed for narrow access, and we regularly grind stumps in back gardens, side passages and fenced areas that larger machines cannot reach.
How long does stump grinding take?
A single residential stump usually takes 30 minutes to an hour. Larger or multiple stumps take longer, and we give you a time estimate with your quote.
Can I plant a new tree where the stump was?
Yes, once the grindings have been cleared out and fresh soil added. We recommend waiting a few months to let any remaining root material begin to break down before planting.
Working for businesses, shires and government, north, south and east of the river allows us to efficiently cover the whole metropolitan area, from Yanchep to Rockingham, and everywhere in between. We are your local arborists in Perth.
