There’s a social benefit of trees…?
According to the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) “human response to trees goes well beyond simply observing their beauty. We feel serene, peaceful, restful and tranquil in a grove of trees. We are ‘at home’ there.”
Trees have a huge impact on people’s wellbeing and yet they are often taken for granted. Many don’t realise the positive impacts a forest is having on them until it is gone.
Trees don’t only provide clean oxygen but they also have amazing calming effects on the people that reside amongst them. There are studies to prove that trees significantly reduce stress levels, so you can imagine the importance of having them in areas such as:
- Business districts for people working
- Hospitals for people’s health and healing
- Roads and high traffic areas
Trees are also planted in order to honour someone for a life achievement/s, in remembrance or simply to mark an anniversary. According to the ISA they are used because of their “stature, strength and endurance… [they have] a cathedral-like quality”.
We have a strong tie with trees and nature and it is important to ensure we keep our trees healthy and strong.
